Best known for:
Understanding the real estate market in Boston and Massachusetts and the unique issues that can arise for anyone interacting with real estate in a meaningful way. I do my best to understand the business needs of my clients and to find the best legal solutions to achieve their goals.
Why I chose my practice area:
I began my career as a law clerk to the Hon. Karyn F. Scheier (ret.) when she was Land Court chief justice. It was the best job I’ve ever had, and learning about real property law from Judge Scheier and the other Land Court judges was an irreplaceable education. I enjoyed the complexities of issues involving real property in a jurisdiction as old and complicated as Massachusetts, and a focus on real estate made sense when I transitioned into private practice. Although my practice has diversified over the last 14 years, I have never moved away from real estate law.
Most memorable case:
I’ve been fortunate to have been involved in a number of cases involving new construction in the Seaport. It’s always gratifying to walk through that neighborhood and see buildings and businesses that I helped bring into existence.
What makes me a leader in my field:
The qualities I most admire in the leaders I see in our field are the ability to build and maintain relationships, consider all viewpoints, and make difficult decisions. I hope that other commercial real estate lawyers and professionals in Massachusetts see those same qualities in me.
Bar involvement/leadership roles:
Vice president, MCLE Board of Trustees; board member and co-chair, Continuing Education Committee for the Real Estate Bar Association; Executive Committee member, Abstract Club; co-vice chair of membership, American Bar Association’s Real Estate, Condemnation, & Trust Litigation Committee; past president, REBA, sesquicentennial anniversary (2022)
