Local NAELA chapter honors elder law attorneys, others
The Massachusetts chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys honored state leaders and chapter members at its annual meeting last month, recognizing them for their advocacy of elder services and their commitment to raising awareness of legal issues affecting seniors.
An evening devoted to honoring legal community’s ‘Top Women’
Hundreds of well-wishers attended Lawyers Weekly’s annual Top Women of Law event at Boston’s Hynes Convention Center on Nov. 1. In addition to the 2023 class of Top Women, Circle of Excellence honorees and recipients of the program’s new Making a Difference award were recognized.
Trial Court Cares Drive is off and running
State courthouses and court offices across Massachusetts have been participating in the fourth annual Trial Court Cares Drive, with food collected through Nov. 15, followed by a winter clothing drive starting on Dec. 1 and closing on Dec. 15.
‘Beacons’ on the hill
The Equal Justice Coalition held a special event at the State House on Oct. 19 to recognize seven lawmakers who have been “Beacons of Justice” on the Hill. This year’s honorees were selected by a committee for their unwavering support of civil legal aid funding through the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corp. budget line item.
Setting the stage for the next 50 years
The Roxbury Defenders Unit of the Committee for Public Counsel Services celebrated its 50th anniversary on Oct. 13 at the Roxbury branch of the Boston Public Library. Those formerly in charge of the office were presented with symbolic batons to represent handing over the reins of the Roxbury Defenders from one generation to the next.
New England Innocence Project’s ‘storytelling event’ returns in person
The New England Innocence Project, a nonprofit dedicated to correcting and preventing wrongful convictions, hosted its annual storytelling event, “Voices of the Innocent: Against All Odds,” on Sept. 14 at City Winery Boston.
Tough school to get into
The American College of Trial Lawyers inducted Boston attorney Kelli L. Porges along with select lawyers from across the U.S. and Canada into the exclusive college at its national meeting on Sept. 23 in San Diego.
