Years in practice:
30
Best known for:
I have represented a variety of different types of professionals over the years. More recently, my practice has more typically involved representation of attorneys in professional liability and disciplinary matters.
Why I chose my practice area:
For me, it is the people that I represent. My clients are hard-working, thoughtful practitioners who are trying to do the right thing for their clients. When they find themselves in a difficult situation, usually due to an unfortunate result, it is gratifying to be able to help them find a path forward to resolution.
Most memorable case:
Early in my career, I represented an engineering firm in a case involving the design of bridge bearings for a renovation project on the Mass. Pike. Our clients spent an afternoon teaching us a crash course in bridge engineering, and the forces that a successful design must address. To this day, I cannot drive under a bridge without looking at the bearings and thinking about my clients.
What makes me a leader in my field:
I like to think I offer the wisdom gained over decades of practice.
Outlook for 2025:
I think that all professionals will see an increasing impact from the use of artificial intelligence. It can be a helpful tool, but it cannot replace professional judgment. Professionals who abdicate their responsibilities to artificial intelligence will find likely find themselves in trouble.
Bar involvement/leadership roles:
I have been involved in the Boston Bar Association for decades. I am currently serving on the Ethics Committee. I have also served as a hearing officer at the Board of Bar Overseers.
