The Governor’s Council on June 26 unanimously approved three of Gov. Maura T. Healey’s recent judicial nominees, confirming new judges to the District and Probate & Family courts.
The council approved Healey’s nomination of Frederick A. DeCubellis as a District Court judge on a 6-0 vote, with Councilor Eileen R. Duff absent.
DeCubellis is an assistant clerk-magistrate in New Bedford District Court who previously ran a solo practice in New Bedford for 22 years, handling civil and criminal matters, and practicing in the District Court. He is a Southern New England School of Law graduate.
Councilors Marilyn M. Petitto Devaney and Joseph C. Ferreira both expressed enthusiasm for DeCubellis, with Devaney citing his breadth of experience across civil and criminal matters and Ferreira telling the council that “everyone” in the New Bedford area was pleased with the nomination.
With two more 6-0 votes, councilors agreed to seat Jessica M. Dubin and Carla A. Salvucci on the Probate & Family Court bench.
A partner at Lee & Rivers in Boston, Dubin also edits the Boston Bar Journal and has provided pro bono representation to survivors of domestic abuse.
Salvucci is the lead attorney and owner of Newtonville firm Salvucci Law, which specializes in family law. Before the vote, Devaney told her fellow councilors that Salvucci’s sincerity and “down-to-Earth” demeanor would be particularly valuable on the Probate & Family Court.
