Judge delays trial in mob-boss murder
admin//April 9, 2007//
A Hampden Superior Court judge gave the lawyer for Frankie A. Roche, the man accused of killing mob boss Adolfo “Big Al” Bruno, a few days to pursue information that the lawyer said could point to others as responsible for the crime, according to The Springfield Republican.
Joseph A. Franco of West Springfield, Roche’s lawyer, also asked Judge John A. Agostini to dismiss the murder charge against Roche, saying that the state did not give him evidence that may help clear his client in a timely matter. Agostini denied that request.
Roche is accused of the shooting of Bruno in Springfield on Nov. 24, 2003, the Republican reported.
When the motion to dismiss the case was denied, Franco asked that the trial be moved to June or July so he can explore the new information. Agostini said the case will be heard this month.
Franco said that he was given two FBI reports recently by Assistant District Attorney Carmen W. Picknally. He said that the FBI information, from another region and dating back to 2003, showed that people other than Roche were involved in the shooting. He said the reports opened up “a whole new area of investigation,” according to the Republican.
