Motorcyclist suffers severe injuries in collision with SUV
$1.3 million settlement
Mass. Lawyers Weekly Staff//January 9, 2026//
On April 19, 2025, just after 6 p.m., the plaintiff was riding her motorcycle when a 72-year-old driver turned left in front of her. Surveillance video showed the defendant making the turn without yielding, and the motorcycle hitting the passenger side of the SUV.
The impact threw the plaintiff roughly 20 feet, causing her to lose consciousness. The motorcycle showed extensive front-end damage with no skid marks, indicating the plaintiff had no chance to brake. Debris from the crash also struck a third vehicle.
The plaintiff was airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital due to the severity of her injuries, which included complex pelvic and sacral fractures, internal bleeding, and significant soft-tissue trauma. She sustained an open-book pelvic fracture, bilateral acetabular fractures, nerve damage affecting her left leg, and reproductive injuries requiring surgical repair. She also experienced a pelvic hematoma that required blood transfusions, as well as urinary complications.
The plaintiff underwent multiple emergency surgeries, including open reduction and internal fixation of her pelvis and later sacral reconstruction with a laminectomy.
Police and video evidence confirmed the defendant turned directly into the plaintiff’s path on a clear, dry day, with no turn signal observed on the defendant’s vehicle.
The defendant attempted to argue that the plaintiff’s speed was excessive and the cause of the accident.
The recovery was the full value of all available insurance coverage.
