Over 25 years as a construction attorney, Jonathan C. Burwood has forged a reputation for deep knowledge, passion and experience. He is known for strategically and vigorously representing a client base that includes sureties, contractors, subcontractors, owners, developers and community associations, among others.

Burwood provides services that range from general counseling, pre-suit negotiations, and alternative dispute resolution to managing client interests through high-stakes litigation and appeals. His sophisticated national practice emphasizes quality and efficiency in the administration of complex disputes as he balances the insistent pursuit of client interests against the practical risks and expense of complicated litigation, always with a value placed on responsible and appropriate resolutions.

The Watt Tieder senior partner’s successful representations include his representation of a contractor who faced an owner’s $2.8 million claim for defective construction involving galvanized structural steel. Burwood obtained a favorable resolution after a two-week arbitration.

Additionally, Burwood first-chaired a six-week multiparty federal jury trial of $12 million in statutory environmental contribution claims and resulting appeals before the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Burwood has also engaged in extensive work in the field of renewable energy relative to construction, maintenance and repair of numerous wind turbine generators located throughout New England, including the negotiation of complex resolutions with public and private owners, turbine suppliers and contractors.

In addition, Burwood successfully resolved a $17 million dispute involving contract and fraud claims tied to the construction of two high-tech data centers and, in a separate engagement, prevailed in the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of a performance bond surety seeking discharge of an obligee’s $10 million claim.
