City gets $438K in Snelgrove lawsuit
admin//July 31, 2006//
The City of Boston recouped less than 10 percent of its $5 million settlement with the family of Victoria Snelgrove in the family’s suit against the manufacturer of the pepper-pellet gun that police officers fired into a crowd during 2004 Red Sox celebrations, killing the 21-year-old college student, according to The Boston Globe.
The city received $438,500 after the Snelgroves reached an agreement with FN Herstal, maker of the so-called less-lethal FN303 weapon, according to The Globe.
When the city agreed last year to pay the Snelgroves the largest wrongful death settlement in Boston history, the agreement included a stipulation that the city receive half of any proceeds, up to $2 million, from the family’s $10 million suit against the gun manufacturer. The city agreed to cooperate in the lawsuit.
A federal judge dismissed the family’s suit June 2, a day after he was notified that both sides had reached an agreement.
